# KissMyPost > KissMyPost is a Reddit analytics tool built on public Reddit posts and comments back to 2005. KissMyPost Research publishes original data studies about Reddit, each with its method, its limits and the data as CSV. Research pages are public and free to quote. Charts and data are licensed CC BY 4.0 (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/): credit KissMyPost and link to the study. ## Research - [Subreddit karma and account age requirements, checked on 70,483 subreddits](https://kissmypost.com/research/subreddit-karma-requirements): For subreddit karma requirements, the bots of about 2% of 70,483 subreddits state a number, or 5% counting limits seen in removals. For karma or account age, about 4% state a number, and about one in ten have one counting removals. Among the 2,572 subreddits whose bot states a minimum account age, the median is 7 days; among the 574 stating a comment-karma minimum, it's 50. In the typical subreddit, 49% of the first posts that accounts under a day old made there were removed, February 2025 to January 2026. - [Reddit talks about layoffs more than in 2020, while US layoffs sit just below 2019](https://kissmypost.com/research/reddit-layoffs): Reddit posts mentioning layoffs averaged 347 per million posts in 2025, above 301 in 2020. US layoffs (JOLTS) averaged 1.76 million a month in 2025, 3% below 2019. Before 2020, first-person "I got laid off" titles fell with US unemployment for years (r = 0.75) but barely matched it monthly. - [Ukrainian Reddit in numbers: who writes in Ukrainian, and how its developers talk about AI](https://kissmypost.com/research/ukrainian-reddit-in-numbers): 12,693 people wrote at least one post in Ukrainian on Reddit from January to September 2026, against 2,651 in all of 2022, almost five times as many. In r/ukraina, once the main Ukrainian-language subreddit, Russian fell from 78% of posts in 2014 to 13% in 2021, before the full-scale invasion, and the communities that appeared since are written almost only in Ukrainian. The largest Ukrainian-language community is now r/reddit_ukr, started in 2024. Ukrainian developers in r/ukraine_dev mention AI in 10.8% of comments, against 22% in r/ExperiencedDevs, but they are only now picking up "vibe coding", after it peaked in Western developer subreddits. - [Most posts in Reddit's business subreddits are removed. Here's who removes them](https://kissmypost.com/research/reddit-business-subreddits-removed-posts): In 40 subreddits for marketers, SEO people, SaaS founders and startups, 55% of posts made from October 2025 to September 2026 were removed, against 15% across all of Reddit. The share went from 45% in November 2023 to 63% in September 2026. More of those removals now come from Reddit itself (53%) than from moderators (42%). The clearest difference between posts that stay up and posts that don't is the author's history in the subreddit: 65% of posts by people with no comments there in the previous year were removed, against 36% after a single comment. - [Which Reddit threads do Google and ChatGPT send people to?](https://kissmypost.com/research/reddit-threads-google-chatgpt-send-people-to): Specific how-to questions, far more often than a typical thread; "best X" lists, no more often. Among threads older than 30 days, how-to and fix-it threads are 11.6% of the threads people say Google sent them to, against 6.6% for a typical Reddit comment of the same thread age, 1.8 times as often; "best X" and recommendation threads are 3.6% against 3.4%, no lift. AI assistants such as ChatGPT send people to much newer threads: 34% of AI arrivals are in threads under a week old, against 16% from search. 11 of the 25 subreddits with the most arrivals for their size are named after a product or company. Based on 19,749 comments from January 2025 to September 2026 where the writer says how they got there; they show where people land, not what AI cites. - [Where founders found their first customers](https://kissmypost.com/research/where-founders-found-first-customers): In 2025-2026, 35% of founders who said on Reddit where their first customers came from named Reddit itself, 19% other online communities (Discord, Slack, Facebook groups, forums) and 16% people they already knew. Product Hunt brought the first customers in 4% of these stories and Hacker News in under 1%. In 2011-2019 the picture was different: marketplaces such as the App Store, Etsy and Amazon led with 28%, and Reddit was 4%. One caveat matters more than any single number: these stories were posted on Reddit, so Reddit is over-counted. - [Where buyers of your software hang out on Reddit](https://kissmypost.com/research/where-software-buyers-hang-out-on-reddit): From October 2025 to September 2026, 7,416 Reddit posts asked which CRM, email marketing, SEO, accounting or other business software to use, across 1,594 subreddits. CRM had the most questions (1,574), 41% of them in r/CRMSoftware, r/CRM, r/WhichCRM. Half of all questions got a first reply within 32 minutes, and 19.8% got none. About 1 in 7 top-level replies came from someone who says they make or sell a product. Web and product analytics is the only category where pitches (255) outnumber questions (248). - [Which subreddits lean Democratic or Republican? Check any of them](https://kissmypost.com/research/which-subreddits-lean-democratic-or-republican): Of Reddit's 100 biggest non-political subreddits, r/MurderedByWords (87%), r/pics (86%), r/IThinkYouShouldLeave (86%) lean hardest Democratic and r/teenagers (22%), r/wallstreetbets (34%), r/TheTeenagerPeople (37%) lean hardest Republican, judged by where 36,389 regulars of party subreddits spend their time. The typical big subreddit sits at 57% Democratic, not 50%: Democratic regulars spend more of their Reddit time in the biggest general subreddits, Republican regulars in gaming, sports, cars and money ones. Search any of 16,204 subreddits below. - [How many subreddits are there?](https://kissmypost.com/research/how-many-subreddits): In September 2026, 388,172 subreddits had at least one post or comment. 122,833 of them had 10 or more posts by people (bots excluded), and 44,374 had 100 or more. Since 2005, 7,844,766 subreddits have had at least one post, so most of the communities ever made on Reddit are no longer used: 1,335,822 (17%) had a post in the last 12 months. 1,403 subreddits had a million members or more in October 2026. These counts leave out user profile pages, which work like subreddits on Reddit and would add 22.6 million more. - [Democrats vs Republicans on Reddit: what they watch, drive, play and ask AI](https://kissmypost.com/research/where-democrats-and-republicans-hang-out-on-reddit): Regulars of Democratic and Republican subreddits use the same AI: ChatGPT and Claude take 81% of Democratic and 74% of Republican AI talk, with Grok as the main exception (9.5% of Republican AI talk, 1.2% of Democratic). They split hardest on podcasts and religion: Joe Rogan is 65% of Republican podcast talk and 17% of Democratic. Both camps talk about cats more than dogs, watch House of the Dragon equally, and share r/AskReddit as their #1 subreddit. - [How to grow a subreddit: what 12.5 million crossposts show](https://kissmypost.com/research/how-to-grow-a-subreddit): Crossposting does grow a subreddit, but by a few people at a time, not a crowd. After a week with one crosspost out of a small subreddit (9 to 64 active people), 3.7 more new people posted or commented there that week and the next than in similar weeks without one, on top of the 15.6 it usually got. About 1 in 10 of those extra people was still active weeks later. Where the crosspost goes matters most: sent to a subreddit where the same people already post, it brought nearly 7 times as many newcomers from there (2.62 against 0.38). And crosspost the posts that already did well at home: those reached the top 10% of the receiving subreddit 10.2% of the time, against 1.1% for posts below their home median. - [Do Redditors lie about their age? We checked 2.3 million who said it twice](https://kissmypost.com/research/reddit-self-reported-age-gender-accuracy): Mostly, no. Of 2.3 million Reddit users who stated their age in two posts or comments one to eight years apart, the typical person's age went up by exactly the number of years that had passed, at every gap from one year to eight. 68% landed within a year of the truth; if the ages had been noise, 7% would have. People who stated their gender twice gave the same answer 96% of the time, against 50% by chance. That is why we treat self-reported age and gender on Reddit as data, with the limits listed below. - ["Google brought me here" is down 31% on Reddit. "ChatGPT sent me here" quadrupled](https://kissmypost.com/research/google-brought-me-here-reddit): Reddit comments where the writer says a search engine brought them to the thread fell from 3,190 in the first quarter of 2025 to 2,214 in the third quarter of 2026, 31% lower, while Reddit as a whole had 14% more comments. Comments that credit ChatGPT, Gemini or another AI assistant grew from 26 to 103 over the same time (quadrupled), and are now about 1 in 22 of these "how I got here" comments. The threads search sends people to are small and old: median 6 upvotes, against 52 for the thread of a typical comment, and 41% over a year old. AI sends people to newer threads, median 71 days old. These are self-reports, so they show direction, not traffic volume. - [Reddit talk about "brand mentions" grew 4.5 times in a year, and most of it is about AI](https://kissmypost.com/research/reddit-brand-mentions): From January to September 2026, the exact phrase "brand mentions" appeared in 9,068 Reddit posts and comments, 4.5 times as many as in the same months of 2025 (1,996) and about 20 times as many as in 2024. The number of different accounts using it grew 3.8 times, to 4,548, while Reddit as a whole grew 8%. In 2026, 76% of these posts and comments also mention AI, ChatGPT, LLMs or AI search, up from 15% in 2024. The talk peaked in May 2026 at 1,577 a month and fell to 573 in September 2026. It happens mostly in marketing and SEO subreddits, led by r/DigitalMarketing, r/seogrowth and r/aeo, and 44% of the 2026 mentions were in subreddits that had no posts before 2024. Known bot accounts are left out. - [How old are Redditors, and which subreddits does each age stand out in?](https://kissmypost.com/research/reddit-age-gender-by-subreddit): Among Reddit authors who mention their age, the median age in 2026 was 27, up from 24 in 2019, and 70% were 18 to 34. Among those who mention their gender, 40% were women, up from 31%. The split varies hugely by subreddit, from 93% women in r/pregnant to 7% in r/fantasyfootball. By age, the subreddits where women stand out most move from trying to conceive at 28 to 32 to r/Perimenopause at 38 to 47 and r/Menopause at 48 to 57. Men's move through the games and music of their childhood, from Old School RuneScape at 28 to 32 to '80s hair metal at 48 to 57. From 58 to 67, r/retirement leads for both. These are people who chose to share their age or gender, not a random sample of all users. - [The best time to post on Reddit, checked on 289 million posts](https://kissmypost.com/research/best-time-to-post-on-reddit): There is a best time to post on Reddit, but it changes the odds less than most advice suggests. Across the 19,696 subreddits studied, the best 4 hours were 12:00 to 16:00 UTC (8 AM to noon in New York in summer): posts that went up then were 7% more likely to reach their subreddit's top 10% than the average post. A subreddit's own best 4 hours, picked from the year before, did a little better: 10% more likely. Its worst 4 hours did 13% worse, and its busiest 4 hours, when most people post, only 2% better. In about 2 in 5 subreddits the best hours start 6 or more hours away from 12:00 UTC, and there the Reddit-wide window helped by only 2%. - [80% more people are pitching SaaS alternatives on Reddit than a year ago. Fewer are asking for them](https://kissmypost.com/research/reddit-saas-alternatives-askers-vs-sellers): From January to September 2026, 469 Reddit accounts posted a title pitching an alternative to one of 79 popular marketing and SaaS tools, up from 261 in the same months of 2025 (up 80%). Accounts asking for an alternative went slightly down: 787 then, 738 now. Pitches went from 33% of these posts to 45%, questions from 59% to 43%. Typeform has about 3 people pitching a replacement for every person asking for one. ZoomInfo has 48 people asking and 5 pitching. - [How often Reddit comments call things "AI slop" or "written by AI"](https://kissmypost.com/research/ai-slop-reddit-comments): In 100 large English-language subreddits, about 1 in 58,000 threads in 2021 had a comment saying "AI slop", "written by AI" or a similar phrase. In the first nine months of 2026 it was 1 in 143. "AI slop" barely existed on Reddit until 2024 and passed the older phrases in April 2025; in 2026 it was in 0.55% of threads, 2.4 times as often as all the older phrases together. The share went up in 79 of the 80 subreddits we could compare. These are counts of words, not of AI posts: in a random sample of 50 matching comments, 30 pointed at something in the thread and the rest asked whether it was AI or talked about AI in general. - [The em dash and ChatGPT: what ten years of Reddit posts show](https://kissmypost.com/research/em-dash-chatgpt-reddit): In 100 large English-language subreddits, the share of long posts containing an em dash rose from 0.70% in early 2021 to 6.53% in Q2 2025, more than nine times the early 2021 level. Long comments in the same subreddits went from 0.68% to 1.32%. The climb began in August 2024, about 20 months after ChatGPT launched, and the pattern looks different from the way phone autocorrect changed Reddit's punctuation in 2017. By month it peaked in July 2025 at 6.83% and fell 17% in August, when GPT-5 became ChatGPT's default. Em dashes haven't gone away since: the share bottomed out at 4.78% in December 2025, 30% below the peak, then rose to 6.26% in April 2026 and was 5.61% in September 2026, about 7 times the 2021 average of 0.75%. The rise is concentrated in posts, where text written elsewhere gets pasted in, which fits AI-assisted writing better than a keyboard change. It can't tell you whether any particular post was written by AI. ## Data - [Subreddits with a posting minimum](https://kissmypost.com/research/subreddit-karma-requirements/subreddits-with-posting-minimum-2026.csv): Share of subreddits with a karma or account age minimum: by kind, by subscribers, with Reddit's own checks and the alternative cuts. - It filters 302,515 subreddits (as of September 2026 data) by who writes in them: country, age, gender and job. Then it narrows the list by topic, size, activity and whether your own account can post there. - [Subreddits](https://kissmypost.com/tools/subreddit-analytics): Subreddits is the subreddit analytics report in KissMyPost, for anyone about to post in a community they don't know well. One page per subreddit answers four things: whether your account can post there, when to post, what to post and who writes there. It shows the karma and account-age minimum where we can find it and scores all 168 hours of the week. - [Audiences](https://kissmypost.com/tools/reddit-audience-research): Audiences is the Reddit audience research tool in KissMyPost for founders, agencies and researchers who work with a group of subreddits rather than one. Save the group as an audience and read it as a whole: who writes there (age, gender, country, job), how it grows, what it talks about, and its posts sorted into pain, solution requests, feature requests, alternatives and self-promotion. - [Post Lab](https://kissmypost.com/tools/reddit-post-research): Post Lab is a Reddit post research tool for anyone about to write a post. Describe an idea, paste a draft or drop a Reddit post link, and it matches the text to topics built from past Reddit posts. Each topic shows what people post and struggle with, who writes about it, the subreddits where it is active with their posting requirements, and timing. - [Historical search](https://kissmypost.com/tools/reddit-archive-search): Historical search is a Reddit archive search for phrases of up to three words, such as a brand, a product or a problem. It covers posts back to June 2005 and comments back to December 2005, and reports how mentions moved month by month, where the phrase is discussed, how many different people are behind it, how it was received, and the matching posts or comments. - [Reply Radar](https://kissmypost.com/tools/reddit-reply-radar): Reply Radar is a Reddit tool for finding fresh posts worth answering in communities you already care about. Pick up to 30 subreddits or a saved audience, and it lists posts from the last 6 hours, each matched to the closest past topic on Reddit and paired with the replies people upvoted on similar past posts. It never writes the reply. - [Brands](https://kissmypost.com/tools/reddit-brand-mentions): Brands is a KissMyPost tool that shows who mentions a brand on Reddit, in which subreddits, and how mentions moved month by month. A mention is a link to the brand's website or its domain written in a post or comment, so it suits brands people share by link. It covers 64,762 brands, and every KissMyPost plan includes it. - [Places Atlas (free, no sign-up)](https://kissmypost.com/tools/reddit-places-atlas): Places Atlas is a free map of the places redditors mention most in each city: restaurants, cafes, bars, nightlife, landmarks, parks, shops, hotels and neighborhoods. Each place is ranked by how many different redditors pointed to it over about six years, with their own comments beside it. It covers 49,416 cities and needs no sign-up. Mentions, not endorsements. - [Playground (free, no sign-up)](https://kissmypost.com/tools/reddit-playground): Playground is a free subreddit comparison tool. Put one subreddit against another and get a report on their regulars: gender and age, where else they post, what they're into and which US states lean their way. Only clear differences make the report, and each one becomes a card you can download or share. No sign-up and no card. - [All tools](https://kissmypost.com/tools): every KissMyPost tool on one page ## Subreddit lists - [Subreddits for new accounts](https://kissmypost.com/subreddits-for/new-accounts): active subreddits, ranked, with members, posts per month, growth, who writes there and whether a new account can post;
