National Popular Vote Interstate Compact: A Viable Path to Improving our Democracy
The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) guarantees the majority of electoral votes (and therefore the presidency) to the candidate winning the most popular votes in the entire US. The compact becomes effective when passed by states possessing a majority of electoral college votes. It has already been passed by states possessing 222 electoral votes — 82.2% of the necessary 270 electoral votes!
