What is karma on Reddit?
Karma is a number on your Reddit profile that grows when other people upvote your posts and comments. It is a rough record of how well your contributions were received. It has no cash value, and some subreddits ask for a minimum karma before you can post.

Post karma and comment karma are counted separately. Points come from the scores of your items.
Minimum karma rules exist because new accounts are used for spam. A subreddit may require a minimum karma and an account of some age. The numbers are set by each community and shown in its rules.
High karma comes from a few big hits more than from steady posting, because posts that reach 100 points are uncommon.
