What is a sticky post on Reddit?

A sticky, or pinned, post is a post that moderators keep at the top of a subreddit regardless of its score. Moderators also pin comments inside a thread. Subreddits use stickies for rules, weekly threads and announcements.

A subreddit can pin only a few posts at once, and they sit above the normal ranking. Moderators can also mark their own comments as moderator comments.

For a poster, this means the top of a subreddit is usually not for you: pinned slots belong to the moderators. For readers, the sticky is where a community keeps its rules and its recurring threads.

Pinned comments are far more common than pinned posts, because AutoModerator pins a comment on many threads.
