Short answer
Of Reddit's 100 biggest non-political subreddits, r/MurderedByWords (87%), r/pics (86%), r/IThinkYouShouldLeave (86%) lean hardest Democratic and r/teenagers (22%), r/wallstreetbets (34%), r/TheTeenagerPeople (37%) lean hardest Republican, judged by where 36,389 regulars of party subreddits spend their time. The typical big subreddit sits at 57% Democratic, not 50%: Democratic regulars spend more of their Reddit time in the biggest general subreddits, Republican regulars in gaming, sports, cars and money ones. How to read it: 50% means the subreddit gets equal attention from both camps, as if they were the same size. Above 50% it leans Democratic, below 50% Republican. The thin line is the 90% range: if it crosses 50%, we can't tell which way the subreddit leans. A small subreddit with 30 regulars can swing by tens of points; one with thousands barely moves.
Reddit's 100 biggest subreddits: the most lopsided
Among the 100 subreddits with the most party regulars, leaving out news and politics, 68 lean clearly Democratic, 16 clearly Republican and 16 show no clear lean. r/MurderedByWords (87%), r/pics (86%), r/IThinkYouShouldLeave (86%) are the most Democratic. r/teenagers (22%) is the most Republican, followed by r/wallstreetbets (34%): on Reddit, Republican regulars are younger than Democratic ones, as the first study found.
Which side is your subreddit on? Reddit's 100 biggestThe 10 most lopsided on each side among the 100 biggest non-political subreddits. Share of attention from Democratic vs Republican regulars, as if both camps were the same size
14,967 Democratic and 21,422 Republican subreddit regulars, October 2025 to September 2026, bots excluded. Thin line: 90% range. Source: KissMyPost analysis of public Reddit posts and comments back to 2005.

Why the typical big subreddit is 57%, not 50%
The two camps don't use Reddit the same way. Democratic regulars spread out: the median one posted in 121 different subreddits in a year, against 59 for Republican regulars. And they spend more of their time in the big general subreddits: 16.8% of Democratic regulars' activity outside party subreddits went to the 100 biggest, against 11% for Republicans, about one and a half times as much. Republican regulars put more into gaming, sports and car subreddits.
So the big subreddits lean Democratic and the long tail leans Republican. Across all 16,204 subreddits in the data, the median sits at 48%, and more lean clearly Republican (3,859) than clearly Democratic (3,155); the other 9,190 have no clear lean. When you compare a big subreddit with others its size, 57% is the middle: r/gaming at 48% and r/nfl at 43% draw relatively more Republican attention than most large subreddits, even though they are close to 50%.
Subreddits by topic
Within a topic, the same pattern repeats: the biggest general subreddit sits near the middle, and the specialist ones split. Each chart shows the 15 subreddits with the most party regulars in the topic.
Gaming
r/GTA6 (24%) and r/Battlefield (27%) lean furthest Republican of the big gaming subreddits; r/Gamingcirclejerk (64%) is the only one clearly on the Democratic side. r/gaming itself is at 48%.

Among the 1,000 subreddits with the most party regulars. "Democratic share": share of attention from Democratic regulars if both camps were the same size; 0% means only Republican regulars posted there. Topic: Reddit's own topic tag. Every subreddit is in the CSV.
Is Reddit left-wing?
Partly, and it depends where you look. Reddit's front-page subreddits lean Democratic: 68 of the 100 biggest non-political ones do, and only 16 lean Republican. But across all 16,204 subreddits in the data, Republican-leaning ones outnumber Democratic-leaning ones, 3,859 to 3,155. So the left-wing reputation comes from the biggest, most visible subreddits, not from Reddit as a whole.
One limit: we can only see people who post or comment in party subreddits. The lean is about where these partisans spend their time, not how all of a subreddit's members vote. There were 21,422 Republican regulars and 14,967 Democratic ones; the share above treats the two camps as equal in size, so the bigger camp doesn't win by default.

Ordered by how many Democratic and Republican regulars posted there, biggest first. "Lean" is Democratic or Republican only when the whole 90% range is on one side of 50%. The typical big non-political subreddit sits at 57%, so a subreddit at 52% gets relatively more Republican attention than most of its size.
How this was measured
Who counts. A Democratic regular posted or commented in Democratic subreddits (r/democrats, r/VoteBlue, r/Liberal and others) in 2 or more months between October 2025 and September 2026, and never in a Republican one. A Republican regular did the same in Republican subreddits (r/Conservative, r/Republican, r/trump and others). Known bots are excluded. The first study lists all the party subreddits.
Every person counts once. Each regular's posts and comments outside the party subreddits add up to one vote, split across subreddits in proportion to where they wrote. Someone with 5,000 comments weighs the same as someone with 50.
Same-size camps. For each subreddit we take the average attention it gets from a Democratic regular and from a Republican regular. The Democratic share is the first divided by the sum of both. 50% means equal attention per person.
90% range. We resampled the people 300 times. A subreddit leans one way only when the whole 90% range is on that side of 50%.
Which subreddits. 16,204 subreddits where at least 30 regulars of either camp posted. 21 more with no name in our directory are left out. Topics are Reddit's own topic tags; "biggest non-political" leaves out the News & Politics tag and a few politics, law and economy subreddits tagged otherwise.
The data
Every subreddit is in the CSV, with both camps' head counts and the 90% range. It's free to reuse under CC BY 4.0; please credit KissMyPost and link to this page.
CSVEvery subreddit's lean16,204 subreddits: Democratic and Republican regulars who posted there, the Democratic share if both camps were the same size, its 90% range and the lean.
Among subreddits with many party regulars: r/libsofreddit, r/JokesOnWokes, r/AskThe_Donald, r/TheBidenshitshow, r/ShitPoliticsSays, r/TheDonaldTrump2024. Outside politics, r/MURICA (7%), r/Firearms and r/ar15 lean furthest Republican.
Is Reddit left-wing?
Its biggest subreddits are: 68 of the 100 biggest non-political subreddits lean Democratic. Across all 16,204 subreddits we measured, more lean Republican (3,859) than Democratic (3,155).
Which side is r/AskReddit on?
Slightly Democratic: 63%, close to the 57% typical of big subreddits.
Is r/wallstreetbets conservative?
It leans Republican: 34% Democratic (90% range 29% to 38%), one of the most Republican-leaning of Reddit's 100 biggest non-political subreddits.
Do gamers lean left or right on Reddit?
Slightly right. r/gaming is at 48%, below the 57% typical of big subreddits, and 13 of the 15 biggest gaming subreddits are under 50%.
How do you know who is a Democrat or a Republican?
We don't ask anyone how they vote. We follow people who regularly post in Democratic or Republican subreddits and never in the other side's.
