How old are Redditors, and which subreddits does each age stand out in?
17.7 million Reddit authors have mentioned both their age and their gender in a post or comment. Here is who they are, where each age shows up most, and how that changed from 2019 to 2026.

Short answer
Among Reddit authors who mention their age, the median age in 2026 was 27, up from 24 in 2019, and 70% were 18 to 34. Among those who mention their gender, 40% were women, up from 31%. The split varies hugely by subreddit, from 93% women in r/pregnant to 7% in r/fantasyfootball. By age, the subreddits where women stand out most move from trying to conceive at 28 to 32 to r/Perimenopause at 38 to 47 and r/Menopause at 48 to 57. Men's move through the games and music of their childhood, from Old School RuneScape at 28 to 32 to '80s hair metal at 48 to 57. From 58 to 67, r/retirement leads for both. These are people who chose to share their age or gender, not a random sample of all users.

Every age has a subreddit where it stands out
For each age group we looked for the subreddit where that age makes up an unusually large share of the people posting, compared with Reddit as a whole. Take r/osrs: of its male authors with a known age, 46.8% were 28 to 32 when they wrote there, against 16.7% of male authors across Reddit. That is 2.8 times the usual share, and r/osrs ranks first for men that age. We did the same for women and men separately, for every five-year age group from 13 to 75.

From their late twenties to their late fifties, women's most over-represented subreddits follow fertility, babies and menopause. At 28 to 32 it is r/TFABChartStalkers (cycle charts, trying to conceive), at 33 to 37 r/SnooLife (SNOO smart baby bassinet), then r/Perimenopause from 38 to 47 and r/Menopause from 48 to 57. In r/Menopause, 25.4% of the women with a known age were 48 to 52, 8.5 times their share of Reddit.
Men's follow what they played, watched and listened to growing up: r/osrs (Old School RuneScape) at 28 to 32, r/Diablo_2_Resurrected (Diablo II remaster) at 33 to 37, r/RetroNickelodeon (pre-SpongeBob Nickelodeon) at 38 to 42, r/Robocop at 43 to 47 and r/hairmetal ('80s glam metal) from 48 to 57. Parenting does show up for men, just lower down: r/NewParents is third at 33 to 37.
From 58 on, both columns arrive at the same place, r/retirement: it leads for men from 58 to 75 and for women from 58 to 67, with r/ClassicTV on top for women at 68 to 75. The youngest groups are mostly kids' games and YouTubers (r/GachaClub, r/DaniDev). In the early twenties the leaders include Indian exam, college and city subreddits (r/Neet_india, r/delhiuniversity, r/bangalorerentals), along with r/Frat for men at 18 to 22 and r/SevenWordStories (breakups in seven words) for women at 23 to 27.

In brackets: the age group's share of the subreddit's authors with a known age, divided by its share of all authors of the same gender. Ranked by the lower end of a 95% confidence interval, so a small subreddit can't win on a lucky sample. Subreddits with 3,978 or more women (women's column) or 8,212 or more men (men's column) with a known age. Top 5 per group as CSV.
A quick check that the ages are right: subreddits named after an age, which we left out of the chart, win their own groups. r/over60 would lead at 63 to 67 with 25.2 times the usual share, and r/GenX at 48 to 52.

Everyone who posted or commented from 2016 to 2026 and has mentioned their gender, counted once per subreddit. Median age is at the time of writing. Subreddits with at least 192,391 such authors: the top 1% of English-language, non-NSFW subreddits. All 735 as CSV.
Who this data covers
- Only people who said it. Everyone here wrote something like "I'm 34", "(29F)" or "as a woman" in a public post or comment. Of the 75.1 million accounts that posted or commented in 2025, 13.0% have a known age and 20.1% a known gender. People who mention their age or gender may differ from people who don't, and some subreddits ask for it in post titles.
- Over-represented doesn't mean biggest. The chart shows where an age group stands out, not where most of it posts. A subreddit can lead for 30-year-old men while most 30-year-old men never visit it.
- Accounts, not people. Someone with two accounts counts twice, and accounts that were deleted are left out. Known bots are left out too.
- Ages come from statements, and statements can be jokes. We take the middle of all of a person's statements, which keeps one joke from moving it, and drop people whose statements point to too many different birth years.
- Reddit changed how author IDs look in July 2018, so in our archive the same person has one ID before and another after. The yearly numbers start in 2019 for that reason; the subreddit numbers cover 2016 to 2026, where some people may count twice.
- Gender here is men and women. People who describe themselves otherwise, or whose statements disagree, are not in the gender numbers.
Method
Age and gender
We read every public post and comment in our archive for statements about the writer's own age and gender: phrases like "I'm 34", "34F", "as a woman" or "my wife and I". Each statement about age gives a birth year (the year it was written minus the age stated), and a person's birth year is the middle of all of theirs. Gender comes from direct statements first; weaker clues are only used when there are none. Patterns that turned out to be mostly about something else are left out: game levels, "born in" statements about generations, and model codes like "F56" in car and gear subreddits that look like "female, 56".
Age at the time of writing
A person's age in a subreddit is their age in the middle month of their activity there, so someone who posted in r/teenagers at 15 counts as 15 there even if they are 25 now. In the yearly numbers, age is the calendar year minus the birth year.
Over-representation
For each subreddit and five-year age group (13 to 17, 18 to 22, and so on up to 68 to 75), we take the share of the subreddit's authors with a known age who were in that group, and divide it by the group's share across all subreddits. Women and men are counted separately. To keep small subreddits from winning on chance, we rank by the lower end of the 95% confidence interval of the share. Candidates are English-language, non-NSFW subreddits in the top 10% by authors with a known age (7,193 subreddits for women, 7,212 for men). Subreddits with an age, a decade or a generation in their name (r/over60, r/GenX, r/90s_kid) are left out, because they win their own groups by definition; so are names with slurs.

Yes, among authors who mention their age. The median went from 24 in 2019 to 27 in 2026. Authors aged 40 and over grew from 9.8% to 16.3%, while those under 18 fell from 16.0% to 3.5%.
How do you know a Reddit user's age or gender?
Only when they said it themselves in a post or comment, for example "I'm 34" or "(29F)". We don't guess from writing style or interests. That covers 17.7 million authors with both age and gender known, so the numbers describe people who share these details, not every Reddit user.
